BOND girl Gemma Arterton has secured another top movie role - as Cathy in the famous Wuthering Heights.

The 23-year-old former Northfleet School for Girls student and Royal Academy of Dramatic Art-trained actress is to star alongside Gossip Girl hunk Ed Westwick.

Director Peter Webber hopes to begin filming Emily Bronte's tale of the complicated love between Cathy and Heathcliff by the autumn.

Actresses also linked to the role of Cathy include Natalie Portman, Sienna Miller and Abbie Cornish.

Robert Bernstein, whose company Ecosse Films have been working on the project for three years, said: "We've cast it as written.

"Heathcliff's a teen, and the story takes him into his early 20s. Cathy is just as young.

"It's radical because usually actors playing these characters are much older. We're very proud to have British actors."

Star-crossed lovers Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche starred in the 1992 screen adaptation. In 1939 Laurence Olivier and Geraldine Fitzgerald starred in the one of the most memorable big screen adaptations of Wuthering Heights

Ed Westwick, 21, is currently appearing in the film Fish Tank at the Cannes film festival, written by Dartford-born Andrea Arnold.

Gemma Arterton's past successes include Agent Fields in James Bond: Quantum of Solace, Three and Out with Dartford-born actor Mackenzie Crook, the remake of St Trinian's and as Tess in Thomas Hardy's Tess of the D'urbervilles.
