The incident happened in March
A burglar who smashed his way into a Swanley home and left a trail of blood behind him has been jailed.
Nelson Ripley, 30, broke into the house on London Road March 3, and began to drag a safe outside to a nearby van also owned by his victim, which the Russett Way, West Malling resident hoped to use to as a getaway vehicle.
But Ripley fled the scene with the van’s engine still running after the victim returned home.
Police were called to the scene and discovered a trail of blood on the safe, inside the house and on the van’s steering wheel.
Tests matched with Ripley’s DNA and on March 17 he was arrested.
Appearing at Maidstone Crown Court he initially denied a charge of burglary but later changed his plea to guilty and was jailed for two years on July 5.
DC Steven Brown said: “Being burgled leaves victims feeling violated and vulnerable in their own property, but I do hope in this instance those affected by Ripley’s actions can at least take comfort from the fact justice has been swiftly served.”
