Police are appealing for witnesses

Callous burglars locked a dog inside a cupboard for up to seven hours as they stole cash, jewellery and other items from a house last week.

Police were called to Burnt House Lane in Hawley, near Dartford, on Wednesday, after the homeowner returned to discover the house had been raided.

Following an investigation, officers believe the burglary took place between 10.15am and 5.30pm, with the suspects using a rear bedroom window to get inside.

As well as cash and jewellery, designer sunglasses and watches were also stolen in the raid.

The dog is not thought to have been harmed.

A Kent Police spokesperson said: “Anyone who may have witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to officers is asked to contact Kent Police appeals line on 01474 366149 quotiing crime reference XY/044368/17.

“Alternatively contact Kent Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
