A COFFEE morning raised more than £2,000 for a hospice that cares for patients with life-shortening illnesses.

EllenorLions Hospice, based in Coldharbour Road, Northfleet, held its first coffee morning of 2010 last Friday, raising £2,278.

Around 220 people attended the event, organised by community fundraiser, Nicola Irvine.

She said: "We raised more money than we normally did last year. We are absolutely delighted.

"After the winter break people are glad to be doing coffee mornings again and raising money for the hospice.

"It was really jolly and people were catching up. It was like a reunion really!"

As well as hot coffee and biscuits, there was a raffle and stalls selling jewellery, books and homemade cakes.
