Call for lighting around Temple Hill garages

PUBLISHED: 11:15 16 August 2012

A councillor is calling on Dartford Council to install lighting around garages in Temple Hill after a spate of break-ins.

Many of the garages are owned by the council who rent them out for £12 per week.

Cllr Tom Maddison wants them to pay for security measures to deter people from breaking in.

He said: “Very little work has been done for years. They say they have no money but they get the money from the rents. If it was a light on a sensor it could just come on when someone drove through. It can’t cost too much to do that.”

Council leader Jeremy Kite said: “Our priority is to ensure good quality housing for Dartford’s tenants and, unless there are safety issues, I regret that improvements to garages are unlikely to ever be a high priority for us.”
