Car arsonist targets Gravesend estate

Police are investigating a spree of car fires which left six burnt out vehicles littering an estate.
Fire crews from Thameside were called to Medhurst Gardens yesterday at about 2.30am to reports three cars, a Rover 216, Mitsubishi Shogun and Toyota Prima were alight, and tackled a fourth, a Ford Escort, on arrival just 100 metres away.
They alerted police to the suspected arson attacks just days after two other car fires.
Grant Cawston, 34, who owns the Mitsubishi gutted in the blaze on Wednesday, had CCTV installed after his car was vandalised on Sunday and hopes it will help catch the culprit.
He said: “My car had its tyres slashed which cost £500 so I figured setting up the CCTV was worth it. I’ll drop the CD to police.”
Olayinka Animasaun, 32, who owns the Toyota, added: “I went out to see the Rover on fire but it was too late. The firemen did their best but it still spread to my car. I can’t believe it.”
Two Vauxhall Corsas were destroyed by fire in other parts of the estate in separate incidents at about 3am on Saturday and 3am on Monday.
