Thurrock-born celebrity activist Russell Brand has joined the Option C Lower Thames Crossing debate.

Promoting an online petition to stop the Lower Thames Crossing being built east of Gravesend heading into Thurrock.

In a video posted to Mr Brand’s Facebook and YouTube Channel, he called the crossing proposal a “terrible, terrible plan”.

Mr Brand said: “To build this new crossing they’re going to have to mess with green belt land, they’re going to dig up green belt land and destroy new homes that were built for people, those people will have to be jogged on from their homes even though they’ve just moved in.”

A consulation on Highways England proposals to build the crossing east of Gravesend ends next week.
