ATTEMPTS to find a new sub-postmaster to run a post office due to close next month have failed.
The post office, in Perry Street, Northfleet, will shut on November 15, with the owners of Baldwin and Son, where it is based, retiring on New Year's Eve.
Post Office bosses assured customers the closure was only temporary but admitted attempts to find a replacement have so far failed.
A spokesperson said: "We understand the people of Gravesend will be concerned about the future of post office services in their area.
"The provision of a post office service in the community is important to us, and we will continue to work hard to restore a facility in the area as soon as possible. Unfortunately, our efforts have so far failed."
He added: "I would urge any potential partners interested in running the post office branch to come forward as soon as possible.
"Post Office Ltd apologises for the inconvenience this temporary closure will cause to customers."
This month, we revealed that Ray and Linda Lewis, from Culverstone, were standing down after 23 years running the popular store, founded in the 1890s.
Speaking earlier this month, Mr Lewis, 62, said: "We have really enjoyed serving in Perry Street.
"It is a special area, full of nice people, and we are actually very sorry to be leaving, but both my wife and I feel it is time for us to retire.
"The last 20 years here have been great."
Resident Margaret Smith, of Nelson Road, Gravesend, added: "There has always been a post office in Perry Street. Most people that use it are pensioners or people with young children."
During the closure, customers are advised to use nearby Painters Ash branch, in Deneholm Road, Northfleet, or Rosherville branch, in London Road, Gravesend. Opening times may vary.
