A man found with more than eight hours worth of extreme child pornography downloaded on his computer has been jailed.

Alan Church, 50, of Bartlett Road, Gravesend, was imprisoned for eight months and forced to sign the sex offenders register and is subject to a sexual offences prevention order.

Appearing at Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday Church pleaded guilty to five offences of possessing indecent images.

Detective Constable Heather Spencer from Kent Police’s Public Protection Unit said: “There is no excuse for downloading indecent images of children.

“Church admitted to downloading these images and believes they are committed in a ‘fantasy world’.

“These images and movies depict real children suffering real abuse.”

Church’s home was raided in July last year and computer equipment was seized.

Kent Police’s digital forensics unit examined the equipment and found evidence of indecent images of children.

139 movies containing indecent images of children were found alongside 13 indecent pictures of children.

In addition 59 images and 18 movies of extreme pornography were also found. The movies found totalled over eight hours of footage.

Detective Inspector Matthew Long of Kent Police’s Public Protection Unit said: “Church downloaded child abuse images and movies, there is no justifiable reason for looking at or downloading indecent images.”
