An “obsessive and controlling” man has been jailed for more than five years after admitting a knifepoint kidnap, false imprisonment and five counts of rape.

Roy Bains, 60, of Windsor Road, Gravesend, was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday for a total of nine offences – five counts of rape, and one each of kidnap, false imprisonment, possession of an offensive weapon and assault.

Judge Jeremy Carey QC, told Bains he would serve at least five years and three months behind bars before being able to apply for parole.

The court heard he subjected her to a six-hour ordeal on February 14 2009, where his north Kent victim was repeatedly raped while handcuffed to a radiator.

In sentencing, he added: “It is quite remarkable and greatly to her credit that the victim acted with such coolness and presence of mind to give her the best chance of surviving this truly terrifying ordeal.”
