ROGUE cyclists riding in the town's pedestrian zone were targeted during a four- day police operation

Seven on-the-spot £30 fixed penalty tickets issued during the intiative run at the end of the month, following complaints from councillor John Loughlin.

He contacted the Reporter appealing for action against those cycling in pedestrianised areas in New Road, Windmill Street, Kings Street and High Street.

Police said cycling on the footpath is an offence at any time, and cycling in the road becomes an offence when the barrier is down, making New Road pedestrian-only.

More than 50 youngsters under 17 had their names and addresses taken, so letters can be sent home to parents, advising them that the police spoke to their children.
