Dartford FC’s return to the Blue Square Bet Premier league was marked with a close fought home defeat against Tamworth – but witnessed by 1,400 fans.
The visiting team won 3-2 on Saturday against newly-promoted Dartford, but manager Tony Burman was upbeat for the coming season.
Elliot Bradbrook and Harry Crawford scored Dartford’s goals, but the team could not find an equaliser.
Mr Burman said: “We’ve played pretty well – I’m disappointed we’ve not got three points, to be honest.
“We made three mistakes on the goals, and we’ve been punished. But I can’t fault the lads’ effort and I can’t fault the way they’ve played.”
Dartford fans face a season of travelling as the Blue Square Bet Premier is a nationwide division meaning their farthest trip will be to Gateshead – 560 miles there and back. The league is also a mixture of professional and semi-professional clubs.
On Saturday Dartford travel to Macclesfield Town. The next home match will be against Kidderminster Harriers on August 25.
