After several postponements due to bad weather, the Festival of Light finally paraded around Dartford on Friday evening (23).
Nine schools took part along with parents and members of the public who joined in as the procession weaved its way through the town centre before finishing at One Bell Corner where students received trophies for their participation.
Providing musical accompaniment en route were Bloco Fogo Samba Group and Four by Four Bhangra Dhol Drummers, while the students carried lanterns and torches they had made in workshops.
The annual event was organised in partnership by Kent Equality Cohesion Council (KECC), Cohesion Plus and Dartford Borough Council.
Organiser Gurvinder Sandher, of the KECC, said: “The theme of the festival was to celebrate the great British year and we hope that the young people who took part will remember this for many years to come. I was pleased that people waved the union flags which we gave out as the parade walked by as I believe it is important that we use events like this to celebrate what it means to be British.”
