Dartford fire crews step up Christmas safety campaign

Dartford firefighters are stepping up their campaign to keep residents safe this Christmas as they expect incidents to rise.

Crews will be talking to shoppers in High Street from December 18 to 21 and Aladdin pantomime audiences at The Orchard on the 12, 14, 15 and 19.

Dartford Watch Manager, Dave Read, said: “It’s easy to get distracted at this time of year, with all the hustle and bustle of Christmas, but leaving your cooking unattended is a recipe for disaster.

“If you’re asleep and a fire breaks out, you’re in serious trouble. Just three breaths of fire smoke can be enough to knock you completely unconscious.”

Across Kent, crews attended 39 cooking-related fires over the festive period last year, accounting for almost a third of all house blazes. There were also 67 chimney blazes through December and January.
