The Labour candidate for the Dartford seat in the next general election has been chosen.

Simon Thomson will stand against Conservative incumbent Gareth Johnson in May 2015.

Mr Johnson won the seat from Labour in 2010 after Howard Stoate announced his decision to stand down over new second job rules meant he would no longer have been able to practice as a GP.

He said he believed it would “diminish” his work as an MP.

Dr Stoate had held Dartford for 13 years after ousting Bob Dunn in the 1997 general election.
