But one dog has spent nearly 500 days at the branch

Dartfordians are the most likely to adopt a pooch from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home’s Brands Hatch branch, it was revealed last week.

The branch has seen the majority of dogs new owners coming from north west Kent and south east London.

Some have even travelled from as far as Doncaster to adopt a pet from the charity home for abandoned animals.

But one canine companion has spent nearly 500 days at the centre, Alaskan Malamute - Theo.

Theo was brought to the rescue centre in 2014 as a stray, and has been there more than 10 times longer than the average stay for a rescue dog.

Michelle Bevan, rehoming and welfare manager of Battersea Brands Hatch, said: “Theo is energetic, mischievous and loves a fuss from the people who he has built a bond with.

“We all adore him and desperately want to see him find a new home.

“The average length of stay for a dog at our Kent kennels is 40 days.

“There’s no time limit on how long a day can be cared for at Battersea, but after waiting patiently for well over a year, Theo really deserves a second chance.”
