A COUPLE been celebrating their Diamond wedding anniversary.

Henry and Dorothy Pearce, of Greenhill Road, Northfleet, enjoyed a day out with their children and grandchildren at The Railway Inn in Cobham on Thursday.

"We had a wonderful day out, it was a complete surprise for us," said Mr Pearce. "Thank you to the owners at the pub who helped make it a special night," added Mrs Pearce.

Henry, 85 and Dorothy, 80 were wed at St James Church in Darnley Road, Gravesend, on March 4, 1950.

Mr Henry described how he met Dorothy when she worked as an usherette at the old cinema on Windmill Street.

"She definitely caught my eye. She was 15 and I was 20 so we had to wait a while until she got a bit older before we could marry.

"We have had our ups and downs over the years - who hasn't? But we have never had a real falling out.

"I guess love has kept us together.
