THE father of a schoolgirl stabbed to death 15 years ago believes serial sex attacker Robert Napper may have killed her, the Reporter can exclusively reveal.
Cliff Tiltman contacted police just moments after paranoid schizophrenic Napper, 42, recently confessed to the manslaughter of Rachel Nickell in 1992.
Cliff's daughter, Claire, was murdered in an alleyway in Greenhithe in January 1993 - six months after Rachel was brutally attacked by Napper on Wimbledon Common.
Speaking to the Times, Mr Tiltman, 59, of Woodward Terrace, Greenhithe, said: "There have been so many names in the frame over the last few years but when I heard about what this man had done, I phoned the police myself to ask them if there was any link to what happened to Claire. I thought that he might have been involved. All they could say to me was that if there was any news, that I would be the first one to know. I try not to get my hopes up, not until they have charged someone with her murder."
It is believed Kent Police officers are working closely with Met colleagues and could question Napper for the killing of Ms Tiltman, carried out less than 10 miles away from his home in Plumstead.
Napper will spend the rest of his life in Broadmoor, a secure hospital unit, after admitting the manslaughter of 23-year-old part-time model, Rachel.
Colin Stagg was wrongly accused of her murder and spent 13 months behind bars before a judge threw out the case.
After her death officers missed numerous chances to arrest Napper, despite being named as a suspect in a series of attacks across south-east London.
He was finally caught when he killed Samantha Bisset, 27, in a Ripper style attack mutilating her body and killing her four-year-old daughter Jazmine in her flat in Heathfield Terrace, Plumstead in 1993.
It is believed Napper committed up to 106 sex offences over a five-year period.
These included a knife point assault on a 17-year-old girl in Mottingham, and the rape of a 22-year-old mother in Eltham, in view of her two year old daughter.
A headteacher from Chislehurst, Sandra Miller, was one of the few who escaped from Napper after walking in Elmstead Woods in 1992.
Mr Tiltman said: "If it was Napper that killed Claire, I would be over the moon to know for good who did it. It would finally give me a chance to put the whole thing to bed."
Mr Tiltman's wife Lin died of throat cancer in March this year, and this will be the first Christmas without her.
He added: "I know that Claire's death killed my mother and father in law, and it killed my wife Lin. It all got too much for her. The worst thing you can do is take a child away from its mother. Like my dad always used to say, it's not the people you lose, but it is the ones that you leave behind that suffer."
