A CARELESS driver who caused a collision which killed a mother-of-three when he fumbled for a dropped cigarette has been handed a sentence of 100 hours community service.

A driver who caused the death of a mother of three has been given 100 hours community service.

Deborah Lawson, of High View, Vigo was killed when Daniel Wellard lost concentration fumbling for his ciggaretes and smashed headlong into her car on October 22 last year.

Appearing at Maidstone magistrates Court on August 13 Wellard, of Sheerness, pleaded guilty to causing the death of the 48-year-old nurse by dangerous driving.
