EBBSFLEET United fans are confident their side can avoid relegation to the Blue Square South.

Rivals Gateshead lost 1-0 at home to Stevenage Borough on Tuesday to throw the Fleet a lifeline.

Relegation will now be decided on the final day of the season on Saturday, with Ebbsfleet, Gateshead, Eastbourne Borough, Forest Green and Histon all under threat.

Fleet Trust member and supporter Jessica McQueen said: "We're still alive and it's up to us now to make sure we get the result we need to stay up.

"We need other results to go our way so if we pull it off it will be the great escape."

And Mrs McQueen knows the fans will get behind the team in the final game of the season, away at Tamworth on Saturday.

She added: "We've got a lot of people going on Saturday to give them plenty of support.

"We want the boys to know we believe in them. They are good enough to do it, but I don't think they know that some times.

"It's been a frustrating season. We've beaten the likes of Stevenage, York and Luton this season, but played poorly against teams around us at the bottom.

"But we can do it, I'm forever the optimist."
