Ebbsfleet slip to heavy Maidstone defeat

Ebbsfleet United were crushed 3-0 by a strong Maidstone United team on Saturday (July 20).

Frannie Collin scored two penalties past Preston Edwards and Rory Hill, who won both spot kicks, scored a fabulous volley which beat new signing Brandon Hill in the Fleet goal.

Hill only signed for the Stonebridge Road side on Friday, having played the second-half against Thamesmead Town earlier in the week, and this is a match he will want to forget.

He played for Hayes and Yeading in the Conference South last season.

Fleet rarely threatened to get in behind a well-organised Stones defence. Manager Steve Brown made six changes at the break as he shuffled his pack, which did not help Ebbsfleet’s structure and shape.

They were due to travel to local rivals Dartford on Tuesday (July 23) as they look for a morale-boosting win, before taking on a Charlton Athletic XI in their first home pre-season game due to work on their Stonebrdige Road ground.

It takes place on Sunday (July 28) at 3pm. Tickets cost £5 for adults, £3 for concessions and under 12s can go free.

It will be followed by home games against a Gillingham XI, Erith and Belvedere and a Brighton XI.
