ELECTION 2010: Turnout 67.54%

MORE than 47,000 people across the borough have turned out to vote, it has been announced. Counters began the task of verifying the numbers of ballot papers cast after polls closed at 10pm. Turnout is 67.54 per cent, with 47,412 people casting a vote.

Lib Dem candidate, Anna Arrowsmith, one of the first to arrive at the count, said: "It's very exciting.

"It is really nerve racking watching them stacking up the piles but it is nice to see people putting them in a pile with your name on it.

"At this stage it is very difficult to tell how it's stacking up. I certainly have put everything into it.
