THE parents of a man killed in a horrific hit and run accident have made an emotional appeal for information on the anniversary of his death.

Neil Martin, 43, was hit by a reversing car as he was crossing Old Road West, Gravesend, in June last year.

A silver coloured Ford Escort continued to drag him backwards for 14 metres until witnesses started banging in his window to make him stop. He then sped off in the direction of Pelham Road and Perry Street, Northfleet.

Mr Martin was taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting but died a week later from his injuries.

His distraught mother Joan Martin said: "Although we lost Neil a year ago, we still feel our grief acutely and that pain has not eased with time.

"We needed to find out what happened that evening so we can get some peace of mind. "

In November last year Joan and her husband Ron installed a bench in Camer Park, Meopham, where Neil used to walk his dog.

Detective Sergeant Tom Duff, who is investigating the case, said:

"It may be the person who was driving this vehicle may have been genuinely unaware of exactly what happened."

The driver is an Asian male, in his late 20s or early 30s, the car is believed to be a silver Ford Escort. Contact North Kent police on 01474 366082.
