EBBSFLEET United Ladies moved up to second in the London and South East Regional League on Sunday with a further three points against Old Actonians, writes Tina Martin.

The Fleet started strongly, but - against the run of play - they went a goal behind after an unusual mix-up in their defence, which allowed the OA forward to bundle home on 12 minutes.

The ladies regrouped, responded well and were soon level when striker Kelly Campbell coolly finished from close range to open her account following good work from midfielder Lorraine Grinyer.

Campbell then doubled her - and the host's - tally on the hour mark and Mel Bishop broke free of the Acton defence to make it 3-1 almost immediately after the restart.

Old Actonians though kept battling and - while their opponents were down to 10 players with Bex Pattenden sprawled out injured - they pulled it back to 3-2 on 65 minutes with an unstoppable shot into the top corner.

Pattenden was duly carried off and replaced by defender Harriet Hills and the game started to change with the once-comfortable ladies enduring a nervy last 25 minutes with some frantic defending at times.

However, they got through this uncertain period and finished with a flourish when, with only five minutes to go, new signing Hayley Barton delicately chipped the OA keeper to score her first Fleet goal and wrap up the win.

The ladies team are in action at Stonebridge Road this Sunday with a league fixture against their Wingate and Finchley counterparts (Kick-off: 2pm). All spectators are welcome to come along and support the Fleet. Entry to the ground is free.

Ebbsfleet United Ladies: Baker, Upton, Pattenden (Hills), Wells, Philpott, Gilmour (Forster), Chambers, Grinyer, Barton (Weeding), Campbell, Bishop.

Sub not used: Teague.
