AN 82-YEAR-OLD former mayor has been given a six-month conditional discharge after he admitted painting a driving instructor's car.

Frank Gibson, OBE, of Windmill Street, Gravesend, was ordered to pay £23.50 compensation after he appeared at Medway Magistrates' Court yesterday. Mr Gibson, who was convicted in January this year of assaulting two police officers, was painting his garage on October 4, 2006.

The court heard how a car, driven by Tarlochan Singh Dhillon, pulled outisde his house and parked on double yellow lines. Mr Gibson asked the driver to park in one of the parking bays. The court heard that Mr Gibson then painted the front wing of the car with his paintbrush. He was also made to pay £100 in court costs.
