Fireworks, lanterns and candles help light up the festive event

Crowds packed together in the cold weather to enjoy this year’s Christmas on the Hill.

As part of the season’s programme of festively themed events, the annual celebration saw families in Gravesend come together at the weekend.

Entertainers helped to heat things up with a fire dancer performance alongside a magician and other fun characters, including the man himself, Father Christmas.

As daylight faded children and adults helped light hundreds of candles on the hill and took part in a lantern parade led by Gravesham mayor, Greta Goatley.

At the end of the evening, the November night sky lit up with fireworks.

Communities director Melanie Norris said: “This was our best Christmas on the Hill to date. It was really packed, full of families who came to enjoy all of the festive fun that was on offer.

“The weather was kind to us and we think this played a part in how busy the day was.

“We’d like to say thank you to everyone for coming and making it a success and thank you to our sponsors for helping make this event possible.”

Up next in Gravesham’s Christmas calendar is the Christmas market, at the official reopening of the historic market on Saturday.
