Locals turned out in their droves over the weekend as the annual Northfleet Carnival took place.

Journeying from Northfleet to Gravesend, crowds gathered to watch a variety of floats drive by promoting various organisations from around the town.

Gravesham mayor Greta Goatley was among the crowds to celebrate the annual tradition, which next year will celebrate its 50th year.

One of the carnival’s main organisers, Lorna Nolan, wife to chairman Steve Nolan, said: “The spirit of the festival is to promote all the local organisations and charities that are from Gravesend at the surrounding area.

“We like to show the diversity in the area and it’s a chance for those local charities to raise some funds.

“A lot of people take part we had Gravesend lifeboats, local schools just to name a couple.”

The whole journey took around three and a half hours on Saturday afternoon, passing through Gravesend’s town centre.
