A Dartford school celebrated the official opening of its new Music and Performing Arts block on Monday.

The ribbon was officially cut at Wilmington Grammar School for Girls but the MP for Dartford Gareth Johnson, and the mayor, Ian Armitt.

The block links into the main school building and is known as The Connell Wing, in recognition of chair of governers, Diane, who has presided over the school’s growth for 11 years.

Mrs Connell was a student at the school when it was called Dartford Technical High School for Girls and her daughter Louise was then a student at the school when it was called The Grammar School Wilmington.

A number of performances took place at the event, with the Cadette sisters performing a rendition of ‘Dominoes’ and Chloe Todd - who has been offered an unconditional place at the Guildhall School of Music’s centre of excellence next September - raising the temperature with a performance of ‘Nessun Dorma’.

Year 13 Arts students also showcased their A Level piece.
