Police closed off parts of London Road, Greenhithe after the mains gas pipe leaked and caught fire in the road at about 11.50am on Monday.

Firefighters were unable to fight the flames and had to wait for energy company EDF Energy to turn off the gas supply. The road was closed between the roundabout at McDonalds and Knockhall Chase and Mounts Road and Knockhall Chase as a precautionary measure. Police were called to redirect traffic until the evening as engineers fixed the leak.
