Band used to practise at the venue long ago

The Gravesend Borough Band have moved back to the Old Town Hall – a quarter of a century after they left.

The band moved out in 1990 due to a lack of space, ending nearly a century of tradition, but are to resume weekly practice at the hall this week.

Band secretary Beverley Prankard said: “It feels like we are returning home.

They will rehearse every Thursday from 6.30pm to 9.30pm and will give regular concerts at the venue.

Steve Thompson, venue manager at the Old Town Hall, said: “I am delighted that the band has decided to move back.

“And I am very keen to hear from other community organisations that have historic links to the building.”

Ms Prankard added: “A few of our members still remember when we used to practise in the hall, although there has been a great deal of renovation since then.

“Our thanks go to Mr Thompson for offering the venue and making the transition so easy.”
