Gravesend’s Cold War bunker has been listed by English Heritage on the recommendation of Heritage Minister Ed Vaizey.
It was listed as a Grade II relic on Friday as an example of a rare surviving example of purpose built civil defence control centre.
Built in 1954 and operational for 14 years, the Woodlands Park bunker has now been restored and is sometimes open to the public to explore.
On bestowing accolades on a series of modern buildings, Mr Vaizey said: “Everyone knows that England has a fine and wonderful built heritage. But it’s sometimes forgotten that we have many outstanding modern buildings too.”
