Nearly 100 people turned out to the event

GRAVESHAM borough council’s Christmas Everyday programme continued last weekend, as an Christmas activity day was held in the town centre.

In Gravesend’s community square, 90 runners donned their Santa outfits and glow sticks to take part in the 2km Santa Dash.

The race had winners in three categories - in the fastest man category Steven Cason and Paul Bains shared the glory.

The day’s fastest lady was Sue Beecham and 11-year-old Scott Taylor won the fastest young-person award.

Throughout the Active Christmas event, other sporting activities took place, including a skipathon for the British Heart Foundation, a free climbing wall and rodeo reindeer, all based in the Community Square.

Elsewhere Santa spinning classes were held at Cygnet and Cascades Leisure Centre, Meopham Leisure Centre and NRG Fitness.

The event was part of Gravesham council’s Christmas Everyday programme, offering a range of Christmas themed events throughout the festive season.

Up next is a winter wonderland on Windmill Hill, which will feature children’s gift making workshops at the Millers Cottage as well as a children’s entertainer at The Windmill Tavern.

An ice skating ring will also be set up at Windmill Memorial Gardens.
