Children from local schools began the celebrations with a lantern parade leading down to the Thames, followed by music and entertainment by Four by Four Bhangra Youth Club and Samba band Bloco Fogo.

The evening climaxed with a light show by arts company Samesky.

Organiser Gurvinder Sandher of Kent Equality Cohesion Council said: We hope that the celebrations today helped to inspire all the young people who took part. This whole summer has been about inspiring a generation and we hope that we played a small part in this through our event today.”
