An aspiring photographer inspired by her neighbour’s cat is celebrating winning £100 of equipment after taking top spot in a photography competition.

Emma Skinner, eight, of Whitehill Lane, Gravesend, won the Rotary Club of Gravesend and Meopham competition, receiving her prize and a certificate at her school, St Joseph’s Convent Preparatory.

Her mum, Kay Skinner, said: “We saw the competition and she said wouldn’t it be great if I won – and amazingly she did.

“She loves the next door cats and is always taking pictures on my iPhone, so I said send in one of those.”

Ellie Mallard, of Bronte School, was named runner-up for her photo of flowers, while Holly Gregory, Mary Chapman and Shakira Taylor were all commended for their efforts.
