Popular pensioner Ethel Matton celebrated turning 104 on Saturday with plenty of cake and sherry at a party thrown in her honour.

John Ogbe, manager at the Edward Moore care home in Gravesend where Ethel is a resident, said: “Ethel is so loved by all the staff here and we wanted to make sure that she celebrated her 104th birthday in style.

“Reaching that milestone is such an achievement and it is amazing that she really is that age, she proves that age is just a number.”
