Gravesend’s new pontoon opens for business

PUBLISHED: 09:23 18 September 2012

The first Gravesend-Tilbury ferry trip from the new Town Pier launched this week.

It is hoped using the new pontoon will attract more passengers and ensure the future of the ferry, which used to dock at West Street Pier.

Ferry passenger Julian Ward said: “We take the ferry about twice a week and I know there’s plenty of people who use it to get to work or keeping in touch with family and friends. I’m glad they’ve invested in the new pontoon – it shows they care about the ferry.”

Gravesham council leader John Burden said: The operation of the Gravesend-Tilbury ferry from the Town Pier once again is another significant step forward in our regeneration plans which aim to re-focus attention on the river.
