A newly elected mayor is gearing up to run for charity.

Gravesham’s new mayor, Cllr John Caller, is taking part in the 30km North Downs Run, starting at Cascades Leisure Centre, Gravesend on June 22 at 10.30am.

The mayor, who was elected on Tuesday May 13, will be taking on a series of challenging events to raise money for the EllenorLions Hospice.

He said: “I’m looking forward to an active year. My wife, Sue, and I are very keen to help the local hospice which needs to raise £6m this year. It is a charity which touches the lives of so many families in Gravesham and often people forget that it is entirely funded from donations.”

As well as the run in June, the mayor will be taking part in the Prudential Ride London 100 mile cycle ride in August and will announce further plans to help young and disadvantaged people through sporting activities.
