All dogs, great and small, were on show for the Scruffs Companion Dog Show at the EllenorLions Hospice on Sunday.

In its eighth year the show attracted a bumper turn-out with entries in every category, ranging from waggiest tail and scruffiest dog, to best coat and even the dog the judges would most like to take home and most like to own.

Great Dane Blue stood above his rivals quite literally to claim the title of Best Dog in Show at the event held in the hospice grounds on Coldharbour Road, Northfleet.

Emma Middleton, chief fundraising officer for the charity helped organise the event which raised £2,200 to go towards funding the 15-bed hospice.

She said: “It was fantastic, a real success. We hold it in the grounds of the hospice so patients who are well enough can get involved. People from all across the region come to enjoy it and it creates a lovely atmosphere.”

Alongside the various competitions visitors were treated to a display by the Southern Golden Retriever Society and free doggy dental care sessions run by workers from The Shrubbery Veterinary Centre based in Perry Street, Northfleet.

The Golden Retrievers were also taken into the hospice to visit patients too frail to leave their beds.

She added: “I would like to say a huge thank you to all the organisations who donated items from raffle prizes and competition winners. This sort of support is so important.”

Judging was undertaken by two workers from the Shrubbery and two members of the Golden Retriever Society.
