Archant

HMS Illustrious was spotted making its way to London via Gravesend last week to mark the 70th anniversary of the climax of the Battle of the Atlantic.

The aircraft carrier was commissioned in 1982 and has served in the Falklands, the Balkans and the Middle East.

She will be taken out of service next year, leaving the UK without any active aircraft carriers.
