‘Hot and arduous’ conditions as Dartford firefighters battle grass fire in record-breaking heat

PUBLISHED: 09:45 22 June 2017

The fire started in Joyce Green Lane

Fire crews spent less than two hours tackling a large grass fire in Dartford on Wednesday afternoon.

As the June heatwave reached its peak with the hottest day the month had seen since 1976, Kent Fire and Rescue Service described “hot and arduous conditions” while tackling the fire, which broke out just before 4.30pm.

No injuries were reported in the blaze, which burnt through grass and undergrowth.

Two fire engines were sent to the scene along with a water shuttle, as crews used hose reels to douse the flames into the evening.

By 6.15pm, the flames had been extinguished.
