ARSONISTS are thought to have started a blaze that gutted a three-storey detached house.

The property in Windsor Road, Gravesend, was unoccupied when the fire started at about 12.15am last Friday but the owners returned a short time later.

Six pumps from Thames-side, Dartford, Strood and Medway were called to the scene, and the gas and power supply to the house was cut off for safety.

The fire had spread from the ground floor to the loft conversion, and it took firefighters wearing breathing apparatus two hours to extinguish the blaze.

Officers remained on the scene to dampen any hotspots in the house, which was also severely smoke damaged.

The next day police carried out an investigation into the fire, which is now being treated as suspicious.
