Illegal Greenhithe worker faces deportation

An illegal Greenhithe restaurant worker is facing deportation after UK border officials arrested him.

The 26-year-old Indian man, who worked at Wahaca at Bluewater shopping centre, failed to leave the country after his visa expired.

As the man awaits removal in a detention centre, Border Agency officials warned others of the risks they are taking by staying in the UK after their visa expired.

“We are carrying out operations like this across Kent and where we find people who are working here illegally we will seek to remove them,” said the border agency’s Kent team member Karyn Dunning.

Wahaca restaurant has been handed a penalty notice for employing illegal workers.

Anyone who suspects that a Kent business is employing illegal workers can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
