Gravesend showed off its floral delights to South and South East In Bloom judges.

Peter Holman and Ian White took a guided walk around Gravesend last week to see a total of 450 containers of flowers dotted throughout the town centre. They were provided by businesses in partnership with Gravesham Borough Council.

Mr Holman said: “We are pleased to see the close partnership of the businesses, council and local community.”

The judges were led through New Road along Windmill Street to see the new Civic Square, then taken to the Riverside Leisure Area to walk through Gordon Gardens and the promenade.

There was also an excursion up Windmill Hill to see planted bulbs put in by residents.

A spokesman for the council said: “Gravesend has previously won a Silver Award. This year we hope to go one better and win the Silver Gilt Award.”

A day later judges were at Eynsford, the winner of seven consecutive Silver Gilt Awards, to inspect the work of volunteers throughout the village.

The results are announced in September.
