Kent firefighters ready to strike over pension changes

PUBLISHED: 07:00 13 December 2013

Kent firefighters are set to strike this evening to protest against pension changes.

Members of the Kent Fire Brigade Union will stage their demonstration from 6-10pm both today and Saturday.

The countrywide protests have been sparked by a row over pensions.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service chief executive Ann Millington said: “We will be pooling working staff to run response vehicles at locations around the country to provide the best cover possible with the staff available.

“We will still be answering 999 calls, but we are asking the public to only call us in a genuine emergency.

“However, everyone needs to appreciate that the service is not operating at our usual level, so it is particularly important for the public to take extra care.”
