A CHARITY which raised £200,000 in an emergency appeal to prevent cuts to its services is urging the public to continue their support with more funding.

EllenorLions Hospices, based at Coldharbour Road, Northfleet, provides hospice and palliative care to 2,500 patients across Dartford and Gravesend.

Bosses launched their appeal in December last year following a fund gap, mainly due to the recession.

The charity revealed a funding black hole, brought about by the economic downturn, and hundreds of residents responded by raising the cash in just four months before vital services had to be cut.

Chairman of the charity, Chris Tait, has sent letters to thousands of supporters to thank them for their efforts, but has asked them from their continued support and said they need to raise £27,000 a week from donations and fundraising events to ensure the current levels of patient care.

He said: "Staff and trustees of the organisation have worked very hard to set a budget for this financial year that will enable them to stay in the black whilst still providing a similar level of care as they have in the past.

"However, setting the budget is one thing, funding it is another. We are totally reliant on everyone's support to achieve it, so there are no guarantees."

The EllenorLions Hospices is asking people to consider making a regular gift to the help them raise the funds.

Just five pounds a month can help fund therapeutic massages for day patients, £10 a month can provide counselling support for patients and their families, and £20 a month can help nurses administer chemotherapy treatment to children in their own homes.

Mr Tait added: "Your donation will make a positive difference to the care we can provide.

"By receiving regular gifts we are able to plan for the future with confidence, please help us to secure your hospice care for the future."
