Ebbsfleet beat Gosport 2-1 to make it six consecutive wins in all competitions – but they did not have it all their own way on Saturday.

Goals from Stacy Long and Ben May ensured Fleet their victory against the Hampshire side who now sit bottom of the table.

The win moved Ebbsfleet up to sixth in the Conference South table ahead of their clash with Dartford in the FA Cup this weekend.

Long volleyed home on just two minutes to get Fleet up and running, but Gosport’s Sam Pearce fortuitously snuck an equaliser when his shot looped off Paul Lorraine’s leg into the net.

But Fleet had some fortune of their own with their winner on 53 minutes.

The visitors’ keeper Gareth Barfoot fumbled the ball in his own six-yard box and May pounced to score.

Gosport had a goal disallowed goal when 1-0 down and late on Dan Wooden fired a low shot through a crowded box, but the ball went wide.

Fleet boss Steve Brown said: “There are fine lines in this league.

“It wasn’t one of our best. But we did a professional job.”
