The town’s lights will be switched on later this month - find out when here

It will begin to look a lot like Christmas around Dartford later this month when the town centre’s festive lights are switched on.

A full day of performances has been booked in for the Big Christmas Lights Switch on, taking place on Saturday, November 18.

Star of the Orchard Theatre’s Cinderella pantomime, Louie Spence will be switching on the lights alongside Father Christmas and the mayor of Dartford, Rosanna Currans, to officially start the festive season.

Throughout the day there will be performances from Robbie Williams and Rihanna tribute acts, while pantomime stars will also come out to greet crowds and spread the Christmas cheer.

Jayne Wisener, who will be playing Cinderella in this year’s panto when it starts its run on December 9, will be among the stars to greet crowds during the seasonal festivities, while Adam Hoffman will return as host for the day, following on from his success in previous years.

In addition to the acts and entertainment on stage in the High Street, family entertainment and giveaways including a treasure hunt around the town centre will take place, with winners picking up four tickets to see Miss Wisener and Mr Spence alongside EastEnders actress Michelle Collins in this year’s panto.

Bringing a close to the day’s festivities, last year’s X Factor finalists Five After Midnight will be performing to crowds, before the lights are switched on at 5.20pm.

Patsy Thurlow is Dartford council’s cabinet member for events.

She said: “We can’t wait for this year’s fantastic Christmas lights switch on and look forward to seeing everyone gather in the High Street for the festivities. The Christmas lights are a brilliant way to see in the festive season and every year there are spectacular scenes as the town is covered with paper snow! We hope you can join us for what promises to be another wonderful event.”

Performances for the day will run as follows:

2.15pm Adam Hoffman

2.25pm The Sound Casters

3.00pm Nicola T as Rihanna

3.45pm The Robbie Williams Experience

4.30pm Five After Midnight

5.00pm Panto Stars

5.10pm The Worshipful Mayor of Dartford

5.20pm The Big Christmas Lights Switch On
