Man in court accused of double death crash

A 24-YEAR-OLD man was due to appear in court on Monday morning charged with causing the deaths of two pedestrians by dangerous driving.

Stefan Stanko, of West Street, Gravesend, is expected to appear at Ashford Magistrates Court after a car mounted a pavement, also leaving a 12-year-old girl critically injured.

He was held after the smash in Beaver Road, Ashford at about 12.15am on Sunday.

A 49-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene and a 67-year-old man died later in hospital.

The injured girl is in a critical but stable condition in intensive care at the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford. Two women sustained less serious injuries in the incident.

Mr Stanko is accused of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, dangerous driving, failure to stop at the scene of a collision, and driving with excess breath alcohol.

Kent Police have not yet released names of the deceased.
