ARMED police forced their way into a house after a 23-year-old man barricaded himself in.

Firearms officers, a dog team and trained negotiators were mobilised in the early hours of Friday morning to Cobham Street, Gravesend.

The man and police then had a three-hour stand-off, before officers forced their way into the property. Police were first called to the scene at 2.45am following reports of a disturbance at which point the man fled, only to return at 3.30am and lock himself inside.

He was eventually arrested at 6.45am on suspicion of causing criminal damage and was taken to hospital for medical attention.

An ambulance was also called to the scene but its services were not required.
