A 58-YEAR-OLD man has been sentenced to four years in prison for sexually abusing girls over a period of 30 years.

Jeffrey Pearton, of Oak Road, Gravesend, was also given an extended licence period of two years at Maidstone Crown court on Friday May 1.

He was convicted of 16 charges of sexual abuse including sexual assault of a child under 13 and sexual activity with a child at a hearing on March 31.

Sentencing judge Phillip Statman said: "Jeffrey Pearton the law has finally caught up with you. Between 1974 and 2006 you systematically abused eight separate victims.

"There's a pattern of offending against children over a very substantial period of time and in my judgement you have been and remain in denial and have shown no remorse from start to finish."
